News from Year 6 The energy around the classroom has been steadily building as students prepare for some of the biggest events of their primary school journey. With Performance Day fast approaching, the cohort has been buzzing with enthusiasm—practising their dances, refining their timing, and supporting one another as they get ready to shine on stage. Alongside this, preparations for Graduation are well underway, and the sense of pride and anticipation is growing each day. The fun hasn’t stopped there! Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been learning across our subjects: Numeracy We have wrapped up our unit on Probability, where students explored chance, likelihood, and the language we use to describe uncertain events. This week, we have moved on to Angles. Students have been identifying, naming, and matching different types of angles with the use of protractors. They have enjoyed measuring a range of angles, testing their accuracy, and applying their understanding in practical tasks. Writing In Writing, students have begun drafting a historical recount with a fictional twist. They first planned their ideas and selected a real historical setting or event, then found creative ways to weave imagined characters or scenarios into it. The goal is to bring the real experiences of people from the past to life for their audience—blending fact and creativity in a way that is both engaging and meaningful. Reading Our focus in Reading has been on moving from summarising to synthesising. Students have been practising how to take information from a text, combine it with their own experiences and knowledge, and build deeper understanding. By connecting ideas across multiple texts and linking them to their personal lives, students are becoming more thoughtful and reflective readers. As we continue moving towards the end of the year, we are incredibly proud of the students’ hard work, maturity, and enthusiasm. We look forward to sharing more of their achievements with you soon.
