R U OK? Day

Our college came together to recognise R U OK? Day and remind our students that a simple conversation can make a big difference. Each Hub created a colourful R U OK? wall filled with kind messages and positive reminders from our students. Students also had the chance to jump behind our moving Polaroid frame, dress up with fun props, and share their own messages on the whiteboard. At break time, students and staff came together for an all-inclusive basketball game, creating a great opportunity to connect, have fun and celebrate being part of our school community. It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, spreading kindness and showing that everyone has a role to play in looking out for one another.

Question of the Day Continues

Our Question of the Day has continued to be a great way to get students talking, sharing their ideas and learning a little more about the people around them. Each day, students have the opportunity to answer a fun or thought-provoking question, with responses sparking conversations, laughs, and plenty of interesting opinions.

We even have had some Year 10 students get involved and want to settle their debate over whether Chess is a sport or not...

Bringing the Heat to the Court - Aboriginal Interschool Basketball competition

On 21st August, Noah and I drove a squad of 12 Year 7 and 8 students to Morwell to compete in a trial interschool basketball competition hosted and facilitated by VACCA. The squad had 3 games, resulting in winning all 3, with no finals due to schools becoming unavailable on the day.

The staff and kids really enjoyed the day, with the hope of this becoming an annual event.

Gippsland Athletics

A big congratulations to all of our students from across the year levels who represented Bairnsdale Secondary College at the Gippsland Athletics Championships! It was fantastic to see so many students competing, challenging themselves and proudly representing our College.

We would also like to celebrate the achievements of our Year 8 students. Ned finished 2nd in Discus and 3rd in Triple Jump, Adley placed 3rd in High Jump, and Lucas finished 3rd in Long Jump.

Well done to all of our students who competed — we are so proud of the effort, determination and sportsmanship you showed throughout the day! 🏅👏

Shaping, Bending and Creating!

Our Year 8 students have been getting creative in Metalwork, transforming sheets of metal into something truly special! They have been busy crafting their own candle holders, along with some amazing metal roses that showcased plenty of creativity, patience and skill. It has been fantastic to see their ideas come to life!

Aiden Makes History!

Aiden was thrilled to receive a Certificate of Merit for his achievement in the Australian History Competition. Congratulations, Aiden!

That’s a Wrap on Term 3!

What a wonderful Term 3 it has been for our Year 8 students! The past nine weeks have been filled with plenty of opportunities to get involved, try something new and connect with others across the College.

We’ve loved seeing students get involved in our Questions of the Day, celebrate improvements in attendance, represent the College through activities such as chess and athletics, and take part in our Tech School experiences. We also came together as a Year 8 community for R U OK? Day, creating our kindness walls, sharing positive messages and getting involved in our all-inclusion basketball game.

As we finish up the term, we want to wish all of our Year 8 students and their families a very happy, safe and relaxing holiday break. Take some time to unwind, enjoy yourselves and recharge for the final term of the year. Stay safe, enjoy the holidays and we’ll see you all in Term 4!
