Gippsland Track and Field Championships
Held at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Newborough, our team of 29 competed across many of the disciplines. Drenched in sun and barely any wind, the conditions and our students, performed perfectly on the day. The day started off with a strong run by Hugh who battled it out with another competitor in the 1500m race. Dee, Georgia, Adley and Hayden jumped to glory in the high jump events, both soaring to great heights. Lenny, Ned and Evie hopped, skipped and jumped through the air past their opponents, successfully placing in the event.
It is easy to brush over these results and think it is easy to get to this level of competition and perform this well, but it doesn’t happen by accident. Congratulations to all our students who train and give themselves the best chance at competing for themselves and at the same time, Bairnsdale Secondary College.

Farewell and thanks to Grant
Champion Of Our Champions
From hockey courts to football greens,
You were the heart behind the scenes.
You ran each field with champion pride,
Every whistle by our side.
Through winter rain and summer heat,
You never knew the word defeat.
You took us camping to the wild,
Every permission sheet chased and filed.
On cross country trails we would run,
Together under our Southern sun.
The newsletter would tell the tale,
The Sports on offer became full scale.
Now the green again calls your name,
So, to the old world, a more tranquil game.
Our staff and students stand as one,
To thank you for what you have done.
A role model of quiet grace,
Who leaves a light in every space.
From the roar of each and every crowd,
Back to the earth, not so loud.
We will carry the humility that you taught,
Along with battles and games we fought.
Go find your quiet place in the soil,
And leave behind all this active toil.
Champion of our champions!
We thank you, Grant Sanderson
