Year Two

As the Term One comes to an end, we would like to thank all of the families in Year Two for your ongoing support. We wish everyone a safe and restful break and look forward to another wonderful term ahead!
Swimming
Throughout Week 8, students attended Knox Leisureworks where they participated in daily swimming sessions designed to build confidence, water safety skills, and stroke development. It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves, supporting their peers, and showing great enthusiasm in and out of the pool. We were particularly proud of the way students demonstrated responsibility for their belongings, staying organised with their swimming gear each day and following routines independently.
Students also represented our school exceptionally well, showing respect to staff and instructors, using positive manners, and displaying outstanding behaviour in a public setting.
We are incredibly proud of the progress all students made over the week and the positive attitudes they demonstrated.
Literacy
This term, our Year 2 students have engaged in a rich Literacy program, exploring reading and writing across three key text types: narrative, informative, and persuasive. Students have developed their understanding of each genre and have created their own writing pieces, building their confidence and skills as authors.
In Reading, students have continued to strengthen both their literal and inferential comprehension skills, learning to understand what a text says as well as thinking more deeply about its meaning.
Our take-home reading program is now up and running, and it has been wonderful to see students regularly bringing their readers to and from school. This consistency is helping to support their learning at home and build positive reading habits.
Mathematics
This term, our Year 2 students have engaged in a range of learning experiences across Mathematics, building strong foundations and confidence in key concepts.
Students spent several weeks further developing their understanding of place value, working with multi-digit numbers to recognise the value of each digit. They also explored increasing and decreasing number patterns, strengthening their ability to identify patterns and apply skip counting strategies.
In Geometry, students investigated 2D shapes, learning to identify, describe, and compare their features. They also explored location and direction, using positional language to describe movement and navigate spaces.
Overall, it has been a busy and productive term, with students demonstrating great growth in their mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills
Responsibility
This term, students have been focusing on developing their organisational skills and taking responsibility for their belongings. Each class worked together to establish clear expectations of what a “tidy tub” looks like, helping to build a shared understanding of being organised.
Once these expectations were agreed upon, we created anchor charts with visuals to support and prompt students in maintaining these habits. The “Desk Fairy” also visited regularly, which was very exciting for the students and served as a positive and engaging way to reinforce the skills we were developing.
We are incredibly proud of the care, responsibility, and growth shown by our Year 2 students throughout the term.
