To begin the year, students from Years 1–6 contributed to a collaborative artwork, creating a beautiful set of wings. Each feather was uniquely designed using colour, line and pattern, coming together to form a striking display. Families are warmly invited to visit the Performing Arts space and take a photo in front of the wings!

Foundation students have settled beautifully into the routines of the art room while being introduced to a range of new skills. They began with a Worry Monster drawing inspired by the book The Very Hungry Worry Monster by Rosie Greening, before creating a mixed media butterfly. This project introduced students to line and pattern, colour, painting and cutting skills. We finished off the term exploring texture in art, using pastels over rubbing plates to see the designs appear on the page. They also had fun watching the oil pastel and watercolour paints resist each other, using this technique to highlight the texture further.

Students enthusiastically explored shape by designing unique robot artworks using a combination of simple shapes. They then focused on careful painting techniques to create bright, bold colour with precision, while considering contrast and complementary colours to help their robots stand out.
Students also created their own “Swoosh of Joy” inspired by the book Joy by Corrinne Averiss. They reflected on what brings them joy and represented this through colour and abstract design. Using a mix of watercolour, acrylic printing with bubble wrap, paint pens and glitter details, students created vibrant, textured artworks, finishing them with a heart or net detail.

Students explored the colour wheel and colour mixing, including the introduction of tertiary colours. They demonstrated their understanding by painting a series of overlapping balloons in colour wheel order, allowing new colours to form where they overlapped. To complete their work, students designed and decorated frames to enhance the overall presentation.
Students have also begun work on their portfolio pieces, exploring weather in art. Inspired by the ocean paintings of Winslow Homer, they are creating expressive seascapes using a combination of acrylic paint, watercolour and paper collage techniques. Students are making thoughtful decisions about how to represent different weather conditions and communicate mood to their audience. We look forward to sharing the finished artworks next term.

Students began with a creative warm-up, experimenting with oil pastels in unconventional ways to create a tie-dye effect through blending. They are now working on portfolio pieces inspired by Indigenous artist Melanie Hava. Each student has selected an Australian animal with personal meaning and is developing a detailed mixed media artwork. Using painted papers, acrylic techniques, and intricate dot work, they are creating vibrant backgrounds and carefully constructed collaged animals. These works are still in progress but are already looking stunning.
