Foundation:

During Term One, our Foundation students have been developing and practising their Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) through a variety of engaging individual and group activities. These sessions have focused on building confidence, coordination and body awareness in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Students have explored moving their bodies in different ways, both with and without equipment, and have been encouraged to step outside of their comfort zones as they learn new skills.

A key focus this term has been underarm throwing. Students were introduced to the four-step process: “Tick, Tock, Step and Rock. This simple sequence helped break the skill into manageable steps, supporting correct technique and building confidence.

Our first lesson introduced the skill through a fun game called Level Up, where students aimed to throw beanbags into targets at varying distances. As their understanding and confidence grew, students progressed to lessons that involved using a variety of objects and aiming at different targets from selected distances. This allowed them to practise adjusting their force, aim and coordination.

It has been wonderful to see the significant growth in both skill development and confidence across the term. The enthusiasm and willingness of our Foundation students to try new challenges has been a pleasure to witness.

Year One

During Term One, our Year One students have been practising and refining their Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) through a variety of engaging individual and group activities. These sessions have focused on scaffolding their learning from last year while also exposing them to new movements and skills.

A key focus this term has been both under and overarm throwing. Students were provided the opportunity to revisit the the four-step process: “Tick, Tock, Step and Rock. This simple sequence was quickly applied by the students to our set activities.

The students also participated in a once off basketball clinic run by coaches from the Mountain Tigers Basketball Club. The students practised some of the core skills involved in basketball such as dribbling and passing.

The Year One students completed their portfolio task for the semester. The focus of this task was to introduce the students to the Aboriginal Flag and develop an understanding of what each colour in the flag resembles. The students also learnt about the significance Indigenous Athletes have played in shaping our sporting culture.

It has been wonderful to see the significant growth in both skill development and confidence across the term.

Year Two

During Term One, the Year Two students have been actively engaged in developing their fundamental movement skills through a variety of planned activities. A key focus was on improving both underarm and overarm throwing, with students building confidence, accuracy, and control through games and skill-based drills. Some of the games the students progressed to playing were Coconut Throw, Snowball and Protect the Basse

A highlight of the term was a basketball clinic run by the Knox Raiders, where students had the opportunity to learn new skills such as drilling, passing and shooting, practise teamwork, and experience the game in a modified way. The students concluded the clinic with playing a game of Golden Child.

In addition to their physical learning, students also completed a meaningful portfolio task where they identified trusted adults and important people in their lives. This activity supported their understanding of personal wellbeing and helped strengthen their sense of safety and connection within their community.

Overall, it has been a fantastic start to the year, with students showing great enthusiasm, effort, and growth across all areas of the program.

Year Three/Four

During Term One, the Year Three/Four students have been actively engaged in a variety of activities designed to develop their fitness, skills, and understanding of different sports.

Students began the term by completing a series of fitness and skill assessments, allowing them to track their progress and set personal goals. These sessions focused on key areas such as endurance, strength, and coordination.

To finish the term, students took part in an athletics field events unit, where they explored and practised events such as shot put, discus, high jump and long jump. This unit encouraged students to refine their technique, build confidence, and apply effort across each of the events.

The Three/Four students also completed their health portfolio task where they developed an understanding of the of the effect a positive self of sense can have on your mindset. The students completed a worksheet which had them interview friends and answer questions about aspect of their life that drive positivity.

It has been a wonderful Term for the Year Three/Four students and we look forward to Term Two.

The research was then used to create a information poster to promote their chosen organisation.

Overall, it has been a positive and productive term, with students demonstrating great participation, effort, and teamwork in all activities.

Term One Events

Term One has been quite busy with events. We have seen our Three-Six students compete in District, Division and Region swimming. This year we had fifteen Year Three-Six students represent our school at the Regional Swimming Carnival which is up there with the highest amount of students in many years. We wish them the best of luck and hope they all enjoy the experience that will come from competing at this stage.

Our Foundation-Two also participated in their week-long swimming program. It was great to watch their confidence grow over the week and hear about the wonderful experiences they had throughout the sessions.

Our final event for the term was our whole school cross country. Seeing the students dress up and represent their house colours on the day was fantastic. Congratulations to the students who progressed through to the District stage in Term Two (note this day falls on our scheduled curriculum day Friday 22nd May).
