Flying Start Children's Therapy

We have started a new food group therapy, called ‘Baking Buddies’.

Our Baking Buddies group is designed to engage children in a fun, hands-on baking experience while working on essential life skills. Our aims are to create a nurturing environment where children can explore the sensory properties of food, engage in teamwork and problem-solving skills, build on social mealtimes skills while getting creative in the kitchen!

Through our sessions, participants will:

  • Develop Independent Skills: Children will build independence by learning to follow instructions, measure ingredients, and handle kitchen tools safely.
  • Explore Foods: Through baking, kids will have the chance to discover new ingredients and textures, encouraging curiosity and open-mindedness around food.
  • Problem Solving: Baking involves tackling challenges such as measurements, timing, and learning from mistakes, fostering critical thinking.
  • Teamwork and Social Connections: Working together on recipes, kids will strengthen their ability to collaborate, communicate, and form friendships in a supportive environment.
  • Build Social Mealtime Skills: By sharing their creations, children will practice positive mealtime behaviours, including sharing, turn-taking, and polite conversation.
  • Tune into Hunger and Fullness: Our program integrates awareness of hunger and fullness cues, helping kids develop a healthy relationship with food through mindful eating practices.

Join us for a creative and educational baking adventure where learning and fun mix together!

Heartkids Walk

This is our first year in Torquay, many people are unaware of our event. We are part of a compassionate community group called HeartKids, and we are dedicated to bringing families together—whether they want to sign up for the walk or simply join us for a fun day out.

We are passionate about bringing families together, whether they want to sign up for the walk or just come out to enjoy the day. We have an exciting array of activities planned for kids, including CFA trucks, DJ Mitch, tie-dye sessions, food trucks, and so much more, thanks to the support of CFA Torquay and Ambulance Victoria. Additionally, I’ve organized a community market where families can connect, share experiences, and find support together.

Our event, “Two Feet & A Heartbeat,” features a 4km walk dedicated to honouring the four lives lost each week to childhood-onset heart disease. Participants can also choose to take part in an 8km walk in memory of the eight babies born each day in Australia with heart defects. The event will be held in Torquay on Sunday, October 27th at Torquay Play Park.
