Reminders And Dates For Foundation Students
As we begin term 4, new readers will be coming home every second week. Keep up the reading at home and recording it in your child's diary each time.

LITERACY:
In Reading, preps will be revising the th sounds as in with and this. They will introduced to the ck sound as in pack, wh sound as in when and ng sound as in sing over the first half of term 4. They will continue to develop their reading fluency during fluency paired activities and choral reading.
In Writing, Prep students will be learning to expand their sentences and generate ideas using their own memories and feelings. Students will begin to develop an understanding of the differences between a fragment and a sentence and experiment using the conjunctions before and after to expand their sentences. They will begin developing ideas to create a character as they begin to learn about narrative writing.
Speaking and Listening: Students will be sharing their learnings and ideas in inquiry as they learn about different animals and their life cycles. Students will share during community circles and continue to participate in share time where they will develop speaking skills when talking in front of the class.
NUMERACY:
Number & Algebra: Students will be exploring teen numbers and undertake activities to understand the tens and ones in a teen number. They will make, name and order numbers beyond 20. They will explore sharing objects into fair equal groups and develop their skip counting strategies.
Measurement & Geometry: Students will explore time to the hour and explore activities to help understand the duration of time.
INQUIRY:
Our inquiry topic this term in Foundation is called "It's Alive", whereby students are learning about "What do living things need to survive?" Student will explore the difference between living and non living things, describe features of plants and animals and describe how living things grow and change. They will explore what happens when habitats change and explore all of these concepts through learning activities, our Werribee Zoo excursion and an investigation project at the end of the term.
SPECIALISTS:
Art:
In the first half of this term students will be exploring printmaking. They will initially look at rubbings and the work of Jasper Johns, followed by experimenting with various materials and techniques to create prints.
S.T.E.M:
During Term Four, students continue to work in our edible garden by planting their own sunflower seeds and looking at the life cycle of a plant. They will also find out more about our local environment by learning about hooded plovers and other native animals that live at the beach.
Music:
During Term 4 the Prep students will continue learning about how to sing in tune, accurately play a rhythm during a song, how to move in response to different music and to describe music that they hear and/or play. Students will be learning some new songs with accompanying games and songs learnt earlier in the year will be revisited.
Physical Education:
To begin Term 4, Foundation students will take part in Gymnastics and also work on linked movement sequences through dance.
School Wide Positive Behaviour & Wellbeing:
Over the next four weeks foundation students will be focussing on independence to complete daily routines themselves as they prepare for being big Grade 1's next year. Students will be focussing on the different characters strengths each week and complete activities to support their social and emotional development.
