Reminders And Dates For Grade 3/4 Students
LITERACY:
Reading: In Reading, we will be exploring persuasive texts. We will explore the difference between facts and opinions, as well as determining point of view in a variety of texts. Our vocabulary and comprehension focus will be delivered through learning about Ancient Rome.
Writing: We will be using figurative language to enhance persuasive texts in writing. We will look aspects of syntax and grammar, including the use of quotation marks to punctuate expert opinions.
Speaking and Listening: We will be negotiating in collaborative situations, building teamwork skills. As well as practising clearly stating our point of view around different topics and developing oral opinion pieces.
NUMERACY:
Number & Algebra: We will use multiplicative thinking to solve worded problems that incorporate our knowledge of units of measurements, such as cm, m, grams, etc. We will continue to develop a range of multiplication and division strategies, encouraging automaticity when recalling number facts.
Measurement & Geometry: We will investigate the topics of Perimeter, Area, Angles, and Location. Students will experiment with using grid squares and a ruler to measure and compare the perimeter and area of various objects. Some students will be challenged to apply algebraic formulas when solving unknown values.
Statistics & Probability: We will be revising key concepts covered throughout the year, including using the language of chance, as well collating and displaying data in a variety of forms.
INQUIRY:
Students will explore the Permaculture Principle #10 Use and Value Diversity. Some examples of diversity include the variety of plants and animals in our School Garden. Students will investigate the Wadawurrung people and their care for the land and how we use native food plants in our BHPS Garden.
SPECIALISTS:
Physical Education:
To begin Term Four, students will build cardiovascular fitness, balance and coordination, whilst also continuing to develop cooperative and team work skills, through Jump Rope.
Students will also have an opportunity to link movement sequences though dance (Folk).
Art: In the first part of the term, students will engage with printmaking and learn about influential mid to late twentieth-century artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Bridget Riley.
S.T.E.M: Students will be looking at the local plants of Barwon Heads, including our coastal woodland environment (Moonah). They will learn about some of the plants that make up this ecosystem and identify them by drawing and looking at key features. Students will also pot up moonah seedlings to be ready to plant in 2025.
Global Studies: In Global Studies this term, students are exploring the rich culture of the Wadawurrung people. They’ll learn about the Wadawurrung language, traditional stories, and cultural practices. Students will also discover the nation’s unique technologies, such as tools and sustainable ways of living. This learning promotes respect for Indigenous heritage and deepens students' understanding of Australia’s First Nations.
School Wide Positive Behaviour & Wellbeing:
Over the next four weeks Grade 3/4 students will be focusing on the 'Be My Best' positive behaviours in 'All Settings', by showing persistence, having a growth mindset and giving things a go. Students will have opportunity to display these behaviours at Camp, Bike Ed. and during the Swimming Program.
