LITERACY:

Reading:

Students will be looking at the text features of non-fiction texts, they will be comparing and contrasting between different features and analyising which features are more impactful for the reader. Students will have time each day for independent reading, where they will choose a good fit book to read and then discuss each day different aspects of their chosen book, discussion character development, inferences, predictions etc.

Writing:

Students will begin the term with an exploration of informative writing. After engaging with a variety of readings and videos that highlight pressing global issues, they will select a topic that resonates with their passions for in-depth research. Through this process, they will examine their chosen problem, explore potential solutions, and present their findings in a published information report.

Speaking and Listening:

Students will be working on their final project for Grade 6, which will be a biography of their time at primary school.

NUMERACY:

To commence Term 4 in Numeracy, the students will be consolidating their understanding of mass and capacity, area, surface area and volume (Measurement and Geometry) and percentages and fractions (Number and Algebra) and looking at how we can apply these skills to solve real world problems including product design, pricing and budgeting and financial problems. As teachers, we have been completing professional learning about the role of short and long-term memory and information retrieval practices and we are looking forward to incorporating these skills into our Numeracy lessons through daily reviews.

INQUIRY OVERVIEW:

Students will be exploring the legacy they will leave as they embark on their high school journey, through writing a biography students will explore the impacts they have already had during their time at BHPS, and look to the future as they transition to high school and beyond.

SPECIALISTS:

Physical Education:

To begin Term Four, students will build cardiovascular fitness, balance and coordination, whilst also continuing to develop cooperative and team work skills, through Jump Rope.

Students will also have an opportunity to link movement sequences though dance (Folk).
