CET Careers Expo
The Catholic Education Tasmania (CET) Careers Expo, held on Tuesday 19 May, opened up a world of possibilities for our Year 9–12 students.
Bringing together almost 40 exhibitors and local employers – including TasTAFE, the University of Tasmania and apprenticeship networks, the expo offered students an inspiring place to explore study pathways and discover career options as they considered their futures.
Thank you to CET and MAC01 for hosting us!
Next on the agenda is the 2027 Year 11 and 12 Course Information Night at the College on Wednesday 3 June, which will give students another chance to explore their subject options and continue shaping their Senior School pathways.
Room service and real-life skills on the menu
On Friday 22 May, Certificate II in Tourism students stepped out of the classroom and into the bustling world of hospitality as the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel opened its doors for an immersive learning experience.
The visit offered a behind-the-scenes look at hotel operations, giving students the chance to observe industry professionals, ask questions and connect their coursework with real‑world practice. Some of their key insights from the day are shared below.
"My experience at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel was very informative and pleasant. The staff were passionate and kind. I found the symbolism of the cookies (the warmth and comfort they represent) quite clever and interesting." – Chelsea Rhodes
"I was very impressed with the hotel. Staff were well presented and polite, the hotel itself had a relaxing feel. I enjoyed the tour and would recommend the hotel to others." – Rita Saliba
"The staff were very knowledgeable, and the space was clean and aesthetically pleasing. The visit opened up new pathways and gave us an insight into the business. – Phoebe Wiss
Year 12 Mother's Day Breakfast
Our Year 12s were honoured to host nearly 50 mums and significant women at their annual Mother's Day Breakfast, held on Tuesday 19 May in the Year 11/12 Common Room.
The event featured a sit-down breakfast for our special guests, with tables beautifully set with flowers and grazing boards featuring banana bread, French toast, chia puddings, fresh fruit, yoghurt and pastries, as well as a selection of hot and cold beverages.
An enormous thank you to Murphy's Café for their catering support, and to our students and staff who worked so hard to bring this event together, from running the Mother's Day quiz to coordinating our Mother's Day raffle.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised an outstanding $3,735 for Endometriosis Australia. Congratulations to all prize winners.
We’re extremely grateful to everyone who shared their morning with us. We hope all mums cherished this special final breakfast with their Year 12 students.
Countdown begins: Year 12 hits the 100‑day mark
Walking frames, knitted cardigans, sensible slippers and perfectly coiffed grey perms – our Year 12s embraced the 'old school' theme with gusto on Monday 18 May as they marked the milestone of 100 days left of school. And they certainly looked the part!
We are incredibly proud of this wonderful cohort of ‘senior’ students. As they enter their final months at SMC, our College community looks forward to supporting them, cheering them on and celebrating every achievement along the way.
The countdown is officially on, and we’re sure there’ll be plenty more memorable moments as graduation draws near.
