What drew you to the St Mary's College community, and how has your transition been so far?
I was drawn to the diverse and inclusive community at St Mary's College, and the emphasis the College places on supporting each student to be the best that they can be. Starting at a new school and getting to know the community is such a big transition, but the warm welcome I have received from students, staff and families has definitely lessened the overwhelm.
Can you share a little about your background and the experiences that have shaped your approach to teaching and learning?
I have always been interested in pursuing a career in primary school teaching but took a detour along the way and completed a Bachelor of Journalism, including a short but memorable time studying overseas. I have an enthusiasm for writing that I carry with me into the classroom, as well as a desire to support students' confidence and motivation in mathematics, as this was something that I found particularly challenging in my own education.
I completed my Master of Teaching at the University of Melbourne and have spent time in a range of school settings in Victoria, from large schools in inner-city suburbs to small schools in regional towns. The varying experiences that I shared with students and teachers in these communities have had a lasting impact on my approach to teaching and learning.
What excites you most about your role this year and the opportunities it brings?
Working as part of the Lantern team brings so many unique opportunities. I thoroughly enjoy spending time getting to know our students and working out the steps we need to take in order for them to feel safe, supported and inspired to learn. I'm excited to continue this as the year progresses.
What do you value most about working in our Junior School Lantern space and supporting young learners?
It is a real privilege to work in the Junior School Lantern space. I really value working within such a passionate, knowledgeable and student-centred team who are committed to having a lasting impact on each student's learning journey.
Outside of school, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I really enjoy spending time with my family, including my two young children, who certainly keep me busy in my spare time. I love being active, spending time outdoors and getting creative with drawing or painting.
