Cross Country fu | Wednesday 13 May
What a fantastic day we had at our Cross Country carnival! With beautiful weather setting the scene, the enthusiasm and participation from our students made the event even more memorable.
The Cross Country is a wonderful opportunity for every student to be involved, as each participant can approach the race in their own way. Whether students were aiming to secure a place on the interschool team or simply contributing valuable House points, everyone played an important role and achieved success in their own way.
More photos from the Cross Country can be found in the previous edition of The Fountain newsletter.
With the House shield points close this year, the carnival highlighted more than ever that every participation point truly counts. The energy, determination and school spirit displayed by all students throughout the day were outstanding.

Term 2 sports
Our Term 2 sporting rosters are now well underway, with students enthusiastically participating in hockey, netball and water polo. A sincere thank you to our wonderful coaches for their time, commitment and support – our teams simply would not be possible without you, and the College is extremely grateful for all that you do.
Our Quarter Field Hockey team, SMC Blue, coached by Ruby Dennison, has made a fantastic start to the season. The team has consistently demonstrated respect, kindness and encouragement towards one another and their opponents, while also showing great persistence and determination during matches. Well done to SMC Blue on such a positive start to the roster!

Tennis state finals
Our talented First Grade Tennis team travelled to Launceston on Thursday 14 May to compete in the State Grand Final against Launceston Church Grammar School. Representing the school with pride were Maria Kothris (Captain), Matilda Greenhill, Imogen Ransley and Ellie Richardson, who all played valiantly against a very strong opposition team.
The final proved to be an epic contest of determination, resilience and mindset, highlighted by one doubles match lasting just over two hours with incredible rallies and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day.
While the trophy did not make the trip home this year, the girls should be extremely proud of their efforts and are already determined and focused on coming back stronger in 2027.
A big thank you to Mermaids Takeaway for generously providing a delicious breakfast for the team as they travelled north, and a special mention to Miss Mia Blignaut for organising all the logistics to ensure the trip to Launceston ran smoothly, and to Mr Messer for coming up and cheering the team on.

Southern SATIS Rugby update
Southern SATIS Rugby kicked off on Friday 15 May at UTAS Rugby Club, which was buzzing with energy and excitement. We had 13 students from Years 7–12 attend, and they had a fantastic time learning the art of tackling, passing and playing Tri-Tag.
A huge thank you to the coaching team as well as the Tasmanian Rugby Union and Rugby Australia for their generous support. Throughout the evening, they assisted over 70 per cent of players to obtain their tackle license by demonstrating competence in the five core rugby skills.
All of our students are ready and super keen to continue developing their skills, obtain their tackle licenses, and progress to full contact games in the future.
