Luna Roo leads the charge for Junior School Storytime

Today at 12.00pm, Junior School students joined children across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime 2026, an annual celebration that brings more than two million young readers together to share the joy of books at the same time.

This year’s featured title, Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A. Minton – a lively and uplifting tale about teamwork, friendship and chasing dreams across the outback.

The story follows rookie captain Luna Roo as she leads FC Outback through a high‑energy football match filled with challenges, determination and heart.

Students enjoyed a digital reading of Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller in their classrooms at 12.00pm, while our Year 1 cohort was invited to a special screening of the story in the Student Resource Centre with Teacher Librarian, Mrs Marylouise Jones.

Afterwards, students enjoyed fun craft activities inspired by the book.

We value being part of opportunities like this at St Mary's College, as we help foster a love of reading and create meaningful shared experiences for our students.

Bush Kinder in the wild!

For their very first Bush Kinder adventure of the year, the Kinder Platypuses headed into the native bushland at Tolmans Hill Park, and they wasted no time launching into discovery mode.

Outfitted with head-to-toe protection (from beanies to gumboots), they trekked through tall grass, climbed trees, spotted wildlife, gathered and sorted natural materials, and built cosy bush shelters, before finishing their adventure with some fun on the play equipment.

We can officially confirm: those brand‑new overalls passed the test!

Bush Kinder is a beautiful way for children to connect with nature, build relationships and grow their independence.

Our Kinder Wallabies had their first bush kinder adventure today, and by all reports, it was a wonderfully wet and muddy one! Look out for more in the next newsletter.
