Year 5/6 News

This week, we had the opportunity to support our buddies with publishing their writing using our Chromebooks! We helped them type up their information reports about the animals they had been researching, showing them where to find different keys on the keyboard and reminding them to use capital letters and full stops. It was wonderful to see our students demonstrating patience, kindness and leadership as they helped their buddies develop their typing skills and bring their writing to life!
In Religion, we continued our learning about Mary and reflected on how her faith, humility and trust in God connect to our everyday lives. Students participated in a reflective Chalk Talk, sharing their thoughts and making meaningful connections between Mary’s example and the choices we make in our own lives. It was lovely to see the reverence and thoughtfulness students demonstrated throughout this reflection.
In Sport, we began creating our team chants in preparation for the upcoming St Fidelis Sports Carnival! It was fantastic to see so many students showing pride in their teams, sharing creative ideas and working collaboratively to bring their chants to life. We are looking forward to seeing our Year 5/6 students take on a leadership role next week as they teach their team chants to the younger year levels. Go teams!
It was wonderful to attend the STEMMAD Showcase and see our students proudly present their prototypes and share the incredible hard work they have put into creating solutions that could make a positive difference in the world! We are so proud of the way every student stepped up, presented their ideas and demonstrated creativity, collaboration and problem-solving throughout the process. The standard was so high that any team could have easily progressed to the next round! A huge congratulations to the teams who have made it through, and we wish you the very best of luck this Thursday. We will be cheering you on!
In Reading, we continued our small-group discussions about our class novel, The Grandest Bookshop in the World. It has been wonderful to see students actively participating, sharing their ideas and building on one another’s thoughts as we explore the characters, events and themes of the story. These discussions are helping students develop their comprehension skills and confidence in expressing and explaining their thinking!
