Year 2 News

Welcome back to another exciting week in Year 2!
As members of the Catholic Community, we have been learning about Mother Mary, the Annunciation and what it means to be a role model. Building on our existing knowledge of Holy Mary, Mother of God, we have been reflecting on how she listened, trusted, and loved God, trusting in His plans for her. We spent time brainstorming what being a good role model means to us, thinking carefully about the people in our lives who possess good qualities and set a great example for us to follow. We considered why Mary would have been chosen and how she was, and is still, a role model for us all to follow.
As mathematicians, we have been busy learning about 2D shapes, identifying their features, classifying them and learning to create patterns by turning these shapes clockwise and counterclockwise. We used tangrams this week to help us see the different ways we can combine polygons to create interesting designs.
As readers and authors, we have been exploring narrative writing and refamiliarising ourselves with the sequence, structure and language of this text type. Going back to some familiar fairy tales, like Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel, we have plotted out their tales on a “story mountain”, identifying the orientation, build-up, complication, resolution and ending. Drawing on this narrative knowledge, we have begun brainstorming characters, problems and resolutions that we could incorporate into our own writing and storytelling.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Shape and Data
- Literacy: Narratives
- Spelling: The prefix “re”
- Inquiry: St Fidelis - 100 years
- Religion: Mary
- TRP: Emotional literacy
A reminder that this Friday is Socktober and also student in 2NA will be presenting assembly.
Have a great week!
