Year 3 News

Welcome to Week 3! We’ve had another busy, exciting and productive week of learning in Year 3.
As Readers, we have explored The Ant Explorer, examining its narrative structure and poetic devices, including alliteration, repetition, imagery, hyperbole and rhyme. We followed the little ant’s adventurous journey and its exhausted return home.
As Writers, we used The Ant Explorer as a model to plan a poem about the ant’s next adventure. We organised our ideas using the Ant’s Journey Map, outlining the beginning, journey, obstacles and ending, and illustrating our ideas to support us during drafting.
As mathematicians, we have continued our Data Investigation unit by completing a mini data project. We chose a topic, formulated a fair survey question, collected and organised data in a frequency table, represented our findings using pictographs and column graphs, and wrote statements interpreting our results. It was an engaging opportunity to apply and showcase our data-handling skills!
As inquirers, we participated in the Democracy, the Community and Me incursion, exploring the different levels of government and how they are formed. Through a mock election and role-play, we discovered how laws are proposed and voted on in local government, experiencing the important role citizens play in the democratic process.
As people of a faith-filled community, we continued learning about Mary, Our Mother and Model of Faith. After exploring the Annunciation, we reflected on Mary’s ‘Yes’ to God as a sign of trust and willingness to follow His plan. We created ‘Yes’ posters, sharing ways we too can follow Mary’s example by saying ‘Yes’ to God in our daily lives.
This week we will be learning about:
Reading: Poetry unit ‘The Ant Explorer’
Writing: Poetry writing
Maths: Location unit
Inquiry: St Fidelis, how has it changed over the past 100 years?
Religion: Mary, Mother of Jesus
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
