Welcome to the Shibuya Students

As part of our ongoing commitment to the exchange program, we were delighted to welcome a group of 18 Year 9 students from Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen, Tokyo, from 11 to 23 March.

The students were accompanied by Ms Momoko Kasashima from their school. During their stay, they attended the ESL program each morning and enjoyed excursions to Sovereign Hill and Newington Primary School. Their English proficiency once again impressed us on many occasions. Among the group, two students demonstrated near‑fluent English, while the majority spoke with a high level of confidence and ability.

One of the highlights of the visit was the homestay experience, where students were able to immerse themselves in the Australian way of life while using English in everyday situations. We would like to once again extend our sincere thanks to the generosity of all host families and student buddies who made this experience so memorable.

Year 10 Excursion to Mirai Seminar at Monash University

On Friday 13 March, 17 Year 10 students attended the Mirai Seminar at Monash University’s Clayton campus. Although the excursion involved travel to the university, it proved to be a worthwhile experience. Students thoroughly enjoyed the seminar and greatly valued the opportunity to visit and engage with the university environment.

Last Friday, we travelled to Monash University. It was great fun and very interesting, as there were 24 other schools attending along with Loreto College. We learnt about exchange programs, working holiday opportunities in Japan, and university courses that include Japanese classes, and more.

The みらい (Mirai – Future) seminar created a fun environment with Kahoots and prizes. We were very close to winning! Everyone was extremely enthusiastic and competitive. The day was broken up with a quiz about Japanese culture, including names, characters, places and food. After the quiz, we went back to the auditorium to listen to more informative talks.

At the end of the day, we received おべんとう (obento lunch boxes), which were おいしい (delicious). It was an extremely compelling day and has inspired me to want to continue Japanese classes at university.

The seminar was very informative, and we learnt about opportunities for visiting, learning and working in Japan. We also took part in many fun activities such as Kahoots and trivia, and enjoyed watching Wadaiko drumming. We also enjoyed a delicious obento lunch.
