Year 7 Rocket Launching

By Lilah - Year 7

Whilst the other Year 7 students were on camp, we got to try out a STEM class. we learnt about Katherine Bennell-Pegg, the Australian astronaut who was named Australian of the Year. After that, we then went into pairs and created our own rockets. We used a template to build them, with some rewards for the nicest-looking rockets and the ones that went the furthest. Our rocket was called ‘Felicity,’ and even though it came last, it was all about the fun of building it together. It was such a great class that we all really enjoyed!

Girls in STEM

By Gemma - Year 9

During Term 1 in the Girls in STEM Program, our focus was drones and clean energy.

We used activities like a VR simulation and drone flying to inspect wind turbines. We also did activities called imposters and blind origami where we had to make something that would go off to a secret room to be tested, but we didn’t know what the test was. We only knew what designs were the top two in each testing round. This taught us that certain features can thrive in different environments and others don’t work as well.

I really enjoyed getting to experience something new and getting to know new people in the Girls In STEM Program. It was inspirational hearing from people from places such the Australian Defence Force and ADF Drone Racing Team. It gave me a whole new look on careers that I wouldn’t have gotten to explore otherwise. I am so happy I got the opportunity to be in the Girls In STEM Program.

Term 1 was awesome and I can't wait to come back next term!
