A Term to Remember - Growth, Grit and Community in VCE VM
From the surf breaks of Torquay to the classrooms of Yuille Park Primary School, our VCE VM students have thrown themselves into every opportunity with energy, heart and a growing sense of what they are truly capable of.
Hitting the Waves and Finding Their Feet
The term opened with a surfing excursion to Torquay, far more than a day at the beach. Designed to build trust, resilience and group dynamics, watching students cheer each other on, help each other up after a wipeout and celebrate small victories together was a reminder of exactly why applied learning is so powerful. Our students rose to the challenge beautifully.
Leadership, Community and New Credentials
Our Year 12 students travelled to Melbourne for their PDS SAC, demonstrating leadership, teamwork and social awareness in real-world contexts, carrying themselves with a confidence that was visible to everyone who knows them. Meanwhile our Year 11 students launched their Community Services journey with a presentation from the Principal of Yuille Park Primary School, where they will soon be trained as assistant facilitators of the Respectful Relationships program. To step into a primary school not as students but as role models is a profound shift, and one our young women have embraced with maturity and purpose.
Our Year 11/12 Sport and Rec students assisted with the planning and delivery of the Buninyong PS athletics carnival. Our students helped run the track and field events as well as results and data entry.
Out in the World - Placements, Certifications and Camp Prep
Structured work placements are well underway across an impressively diverse range of industries, from aged care to agriculture, with students representing themselves and Loreto College with skill and pride. Our Year 11 students also completed their RSA and First Aid and CPR certifications this term, adding meaningful qualifications to their growing professional portfolios. And for our Outdoor Education students, a Trangia cooking session has laid the practical groundwork for their first camp experience ahead.
Botanikids, the Soup Bus and the Café
Botanikids continues to be a highlight, with our Year 11 students planning and delivering a wonderful range of activities for the children in the program, Easter celebrations, cubby building and camping themes, with creativity and genuine warmth. Throughout the term, students also cooked a plethora of nourishing dishes for the Soup Bus, connecting their skills to real community impact. And the VCE VM café continues to grow in its new home in the canteen space, with students building the business with a professionalism and pride that has not gone unnoticed.

Term 1 has shown us once again that when young people are given real experiences, real challenges and real purpose, they have the capacity to find real strength. To our students: thank you for your heart, your humour and your hard work. To our families: thank you for your trust. We cannot wait to see what Term 2 brings.
