Foundation News

As we come to the end of Term 2, we are incredibly proud of the wonderful learning that has taken place in Foundation.

In Literacy, students have been busy reading and writing amazing sentences, showing growing confidence in using their sounds, tricky words and writing strategies independently. It has been fantastic to see the progress students have made during our teacher focus groups, with children developing their fluency and confidence when sounding out new CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant words such as cat). The growth across the term has been wonderful to see!

In Mathematics, we have been focusing on numbers from 1 to 20, with a particular emphasis on understanding the teen numbers (11–20). Students have been exploring these numbers using a range of hands-on materials, including 20 frames and MAB blocks, to develop their understanding of tens and ones. It has been fantastic to see students using these concrete materials to build their number knowledge and demonstrate increasing confidence with these important concepts. It would be wonderful if students could continue practising these numbers over the holidays.

We are also looking forward to finishing the term with a special Teddy Bears' Picnic celebration with our Grade 6 buddies on Thursday. Students will enjoy a range of fun activities together and have the opportunity to decorate teddy bear biscuits. Please remember to send your child to school with their favourite teddy bear on Thursday so they can join in the fun!

We would like to congratulate all of our Foundation students on a successful and rewarding Term 2 and wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break.
