The Foundation students listened to the story, Thelma the Unicorn, and used Thelma as their inspiration for their artwork. First, students used oil pastels on their side to add splashes of colour to the unicorn template by shading with the oil pastel, as well as adding the eye using a sticker. Then, students cut silver paper to add a mane to the unicorn as well as glitter/paper for the horn. We finished off our artwork by adding some gold stars in the background.
Grade 3 students read the picture story book "LIttlelight": a beautiful story about the importance of inclusion. Students reflected on the story elements and created a neon woven background to symbolise the wall in the story. Students also began to draw other story elements like the brick thief to add to their background. Here are some of the finished woven 'wall' backgrounds.
Grade 5 viewed and responded to the Honey Ant Dreaming series by female Indigenous artist Yoritji Young. I previously presented this task to the junior students but wanted to see how the seniors responded. Students firstly identified the characteristics of the series, namely circle shapes, connections, line and pattern work. They then chose a colour scheme and drew circles to represent different family members. The family member circles were then connected with line and pattern work.
