Grade 5 News

Welcome to Week 10 and the final week of Term!

It has been a fantastic term in Grade 5, with students producing high-quality writing and developing a strong understanding of key mathematical concepts.

In Literacy, students have completed a narrative based on the picture book Waves, focusing on a journey overseas. It has been wonderful to see their creativity shine through in this writing. We are now nearing completion of a poetry unit inspired by the beauty of nature and the work of William Wordsworth.

In Mathematics, students have completed a unit on probability, exploring fair and unfair chance experiments and representing probability using fractions. They have also finished a unit on 3D shapes, investigating how nets can be used to construct a variety of three-dimensional objects. We are currently focusing on time, including converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time, and applying this knowledge to interpret timetables and schedules such as bus and classroom timetables.

Congratulations to all Grade 5 students for their participation in interschool sport this term, in either football or netball. Staff have been extremely proud of the way students have represented the school during their matches. Thank you as well to those who remained at school and supported junior classes with Design and Technology lessons, your leadership and willingness to assist younger students has been outstanding.

Although the season has concluded, we look forward to the return of the Grade 5 Championship Cup competition next term.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable two-week break. We look forward to seeing you all back in Term 3 for another productive and exciting term filled with learning and opportunities.
