Year 8 HPGE Visual Arts students have recently started a new unit in which they are exploring culture, identity and everyday life through the theme of food. Students have been investigating how artists use food imagery to communicate personal stories, cultural traditions and family connections. Drawing on their own experiences, students will develop a small body of work that includes a lino print and a clay food sculpture. Through artmaking experiences, students will extend their technical skills while reflecting on the important role food plays in shaping individual and cultural identity. See some of their practice cupcakes below.

Year 9 Photography students are exploring creative approaches to portrait photography, learning how photographers use camera angles, shot types and composition to communicate ideas and create visual impact. As part of this unit, they have been experimenting with professional photography equipment, including studio lighting, reflector screens and backdrops, to enhance the quality and creativity of their images. Through practical projects, students are building confidence in using photography as a powerful form of visual expression.

A number of students showcased their hard work on Wednesday, June 17. This was a great opportunity particularly for Year 12 HSC students to perform in front of a live audience as they prepare for the performance components of their HSC courses. Thank you to all who helped in this process by being in the audience.
