Terrific 2

Year 2 Newsletter
Term 1 Week 10 2026 - Thursday 2nd March
What have we been up to?
We can’t believe that it is already the end of our first term! We have had a lovely term where the students have truly shone and grown. We are so excited to see what they all achieve in the coming terms! Term 2 is a busy one, with swimming and an Incursion booked in, we will communicate everything very soon! We hope you all have a lovely and restful easter break, and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday the 20th April.
Leader in Me Lessons
Our leader In me sessions have been facilitated by Ms Telegin. She has been guiding the students through understanding each habit and how we can use them in our personal and school life. This week's focus is back to Habit 1: Be proactive. We ask the students how they can be in charge of their body, making safe and respectful choices!
In Literacy, we have a range of lessons that support the growth of each student's literacy learning. This includes; Phonics, Write 2 learn, Fluency, Handwriting and Literacy (Reading). This term, our Reading focus is adventure narratives through a mix of wonderful picture story books. So far we have read ‘Alfie’s search for destiny’ and ‘Sam’s bush journey’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’. The students have all written fantastic narratives where they have described the setting and character, and included a captivating problem and solution. They are all so excited to share them with you! This term in phonics, we will be focusing on:

In Maths, we have finished our measurement of time unit, and are exploring our first unit of addition and subtraction for the year. We have been learning how to bridge to 10 using tens of frames and number lines. bridging to 10 while adding and subtracting up to 20 allows us to break up the number that we are adding on, to reach to 10, as 10 + __ can be much easier to solve. This allows us to practise our friends of 10 skills while learning valuable skills for trickier addition and subtraction problems.
In Inquiry, we are learning about our earth and its resources and how we can look after it. This term, we have focussed on reducing, reusing and recycling! The students have been busy creating reminder signs for each class to remind us to turn the aircons and lights off when we leave the room. We have also explored recycling and re-using by turning a boring paper bag into something incredible, like a hand bag, a puppet and a soft toy!
Please feel free to reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions.
