Term 1 Week 10 - 2nd April 2026

As we come to the end of Term 1, it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown! It has been a busy and exciting start to the year, and we are incredibly proud of all that our Prep students have achieved.

Over the past weeks, the children have made wonderful progress both academically and socially. They have been developing their confidence in the classroom, building friendships, learning routines, and showing increasing independence each day. It has been so rewarding to watch them grow as learners—whether it’s beginning to read and write, exploring early maths concepts, or sharing their ideas during class discussions.

We have also been especially impressed with how the students have embraced being part of our school community. They are learning to work together, show kindness, and support one another, which has been just as important as their academic growth.

Thank you to our families for your ongoing support this term. Your encouragement at home makes a big difference and helps your children feel confident and ready to learn each day.

We wish all of our families a safe and happy holiday break. For those who celebrate, we hope you enjoy a joyful Easter filled with time to relax and be with loved ones.

We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another wonderful term ahead!

What we are learning!

Maths:

Students are continuing to work through our Counting and Place Value unit in Mathematics, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow with each lesson. They are developing a stronger understanding of counting collections and are becoming more comfortable identifying and comparing amounts using the language of “more” and “less” in meaningful, real-life contexts. We have also begun introducing 5-frames and 10-frames, which are helping students to visualise numbers, recognise patterns, and build early number sense. It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they explore these new strategies and apply them in their learning.

Literacy:

Our literacy sessions run from 9.10am right through until 11.30am. We appreciate families ensuring students arrive promptly each morning so that all literacy learning can begin on time. A settled and punctual start to the day allows students to fully participate in our literacy block and maximises valuable teaching and learning time.

We are continuing to build strong foundations in phonics by focusing on all single letter sounds. It has been fantastic to see students becoming more confident as they recognise and use these sounds in their learning. In our phonics sessions, we have been practising reading and writing simple 2- and 3-letter words, with a strong focus on segmenting sounds, blending them together, and then reading the word fluently. We have also introduced digraphs such as wh, th, sh, ch and qu, which can be quite tricky, but students are beginning to develop a solid understanding of these sounds. The Preps have been working diligently to blend CVC words and are doing a great job recording them on their whiteboards, showing growing independence and confidence.

Colourful Semantics continues in weekly sessions focussing on the  Who, What, Doing and Where in various sentences and text types. This has been a wonderful support for the Preps to gain understanding of sentence structure and extend their comprehension and confidence.

We have been exploring the  narrative text time this term and have enjoyed reading Aasrom Blabey books. These have been fun but also a great base to start students labelling images of pig the pug and Thelma the unicorn for example. We are pleased to say that many of our preps are confidently labelling these pictures. We have begun challenging the students to write their own sentences which will be continued onto term 2.
