 Creating Our School’s Native Garden

Our group went to School for Student Leadership (SSL) in Term 1, 2025. We lived and learned at the mouth of the Snowy river in Marlo. During our term away we were lucky enough to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain bike riding, canoeing, and surfing.

Throughout the program we were required to plan a Community Learning Project (CLP) our group choose to create a native garden at our school.

We applied for the 2025 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant to complete our Native Garden project through Junior Landcare Australia, our project was one of 111 projects to receive a grant where we were successful in obtaining the grant, from there on we got to work.

A location for the project was chosen to help beautify the Edwards Street entrance to the school. A variety of Native Plants were chosen and planted in three garden beds.

We would all like to say a massive thank you to Junior Landcare Australia for supporting us and our garden ideas, Kerrie Warburton and Tony Lane from Wangaratta Landcare & Sustainability for helping us design our garden plan and assist us in the choice of native plant choices. Also, a big Thank you to Park Lane Nursery for assisting in providing the native shrubs.
