Italian Update

Bentornati a tutti! (Welcome back, everyone!) 

Hope you all had a lovely holiday break and are now ready for some more exciting learning in italiano!

Congratulazioni a Spagna 

I Campioni della Coppa Mondiale 2026 

Not sure about you, but I was certainly waking up early on some mornings during the holidays to watch La Coppa Mondiale (The World Cup). I’m sure you all know that Italia did not qualify for this year's World Cup and unfortunately has not been able to qualify for the last 3 World Cups - mamma mia!! 🙁 Speriamo nel 2030! I was hoping, though, that Australia could have progressed further in this year's competition… unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be! Well done Spain! ⚽

If you did get to watch the World Cup finals ieri, presto lunedì mattina (yesterday, early Monday morning), you may have noticed Laura Pausini, (destra - right), a world famous Italian singer, was part of the World Cup Closing Ceremony, singing the official FIFA World Cup anthem, Desire, along with 2 other performers. Laura did not sing in italiano, co-incidentally she sang her part in spagnolo, Spanish! Brava!

Cosa impariamo questo trimestre in italiano?

(What are we learning about this term in Italian?)

Foundation: Il mio corpo - My body, (introduced through the story of Pinocchio). 

Here the children will be learning to identify the names of various body parts in italiano and relate them to the 5 senses.

Year 1  Láula - My classroom

Students will be introduced to common classroom vocabulary in Italian. They will identify and name classroom objects, classify nouns according to their grammatical gender (masculine and feminine), and recognise and use singular and plural forms in a variety of sentence structures. 

Grade 2: Cosa fai a scuola? - What do you do at school? 

Here the children will be introduced to simple verbs in relation to what they do at school, as well as stating likes and dislikes.  

Grades 3/4: Che Tempo Fa Oggi? - What is the weather like today?

Here, the students will be introduced to various weather vocabulary and simple phrases they can use to describe daily weather conditions. This will also connect to seasons, (as well as revising months) plus learning about the works of a famous Italian artist in relation to seasons.

Grade 5/6: L’Impero Romano - The Roman Empire

Here the students will engage in a historical unit on the Roman Empire, including the impact it has had on modern-day society.
