Foundation News

We were so excited to welcome our Foundation students back this week and see their smiling faces as they shared stories about their holiday adventures. We are also excitedly counting down to our 100 Days of School celebration on Tuesday 28th July. We cannot wait to see our students dressed up as 100-year-olds and celebrate this special milestone with a day full of fun and memories!
We jumped straight back into learning this week, sharing our holiday experiences through snapshot pictures and holiday recounts. Our amazing writers have been using their knowledge of sounds and tricky words to create detailed recounts, carefully recording the exciting things they got up to during the break.
In Numeracy, we have begun our new unit on addition. Students are learning to combine one-digit numbers, create addition stories and develop their understanding of the concepts of more and less. We look forward to sharing more of our mathematical learning as we continue to explore the world of adding!
As inquirers, we tuned into our new Inquiry unit, “How do living things survive and thrive?” Students shared their thinking by documenting what they believe living things need to survive. Here are some of our wonderful ideas:
We are also looking forward to celebrating Grandparents Day on Friday 24th July. The children will begin the day attending Mass with the whole school, and grandparents are warmly invited to join us for this special celebration. Following Mass, we will return to our classrooms where students will enjoy spending time with their grandparents and doing some fun activities together. Grandparents will then be invited to attend a morning tea in the hall, organised by our wonderful Parents and Friends Committee, from approximately 10:30 am.
We are eagerly looking forward to our very first Foundation excursion to Melbourne Zoo on Thursday 23rd July, where we will continue exploring living things and participate in an exciting workshop with a zookeeper.
