Year 3 News

Welcome back to Term 3!
Home Learning Reminders
A friendly reminder that home learning is an expectation that all students must complete the relevant tasks over two weeks. This includes:
- Reading each night and recording the reading in school diaries
- Spelling sheet with tasks
- Maths matrix on a specific area (all 8 tasks)
Melbourne Zoo Excursion
As inquirers, we had an amazing time at the Melbourne Zoo on Monday. We engaged in an educational program called ‘Features, Life Cycles and the Environment’. We investigated the features of a variety of animals, explored different life cycles and learnt about the important relationships between living things and their habitats. We later walked around and visited different areas of the Zoo.
As readers and writers, we have begun reading our class novel titled ‘The Iron Man’ written by Ted Hughes. We recorded predictions on what we believe the text will be about and unpacked the front cover of the book to gain a deeper understanding. We are learning new vocabulary along the way and are excited to use these words in our writing.
As mathematicians, we are revisiting our unit of Multiplication and Division. We are focusing on creating bar models, reading and solving word problems and identifying multiplication and division problems in various scenarios.
As members of a Catholic community, we are continuing to engage in Liturgical singing sessions with Ms Anna every fortnight. We are learning new songs to sing during whole-school Mass.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Isaac, Victor and Wendy, who recently took part in the Melbourne 5.5km Fun Run in support of Monash Health’s Haematology Research Program.
Taking on their first fun run together, the family proudly completed the entire 5.5km course, with the boys even sprinting to the finish line in the final kilometre! Their efforts helped raise funds for vital research into blood cancers and blood diseases, supporting work that continues to improve treatment options and outcomes for patients.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the St Fidelis community, the family also achieved Charity Superstar status—an outstanding achievement and a wonderful reflection of the caring and supportive spirit of our school community.
