Year 4 News

Hello and welcome back to Term 3!

We have had a wonderful first week back, engaging in many fun learning opportunities.

As mathematical thinkers, we have been exploring multiplication using the Bar Model and the Distributive Property. By learning and practising a range of multiplication strategies, we are becoming more confident in choosing the strategy that works best for us. We have focused on solving multiplication problems involving a two-digit number multiplied by a one-digit number, explaining our thinking and selecting the most efficient strategy to solve each problem.

As readers, we have been exploring the wordless picture book The Arrival by Shaun Tan. Using the detailed illustrations, we have been making inferences by thinking about what we see, what we already know, and the conclusions we can draw. This has helped us deepen our understanding of the characters, their experiences, and the story without relying on written words.

As a Catholic learning community, we have continued to unpack the Order of the Mass, deepening our understanding of each part of the celebration and why we respond differently throughout the Mass. Through this learning, we are growing in our knowledge of our faith and recognising how the Mass brings us together as a community in prayer and worship.

Additionally, we had a wonderful time at the Melbourne Zoo yesterday. We explored a variety of animal enclosures and participated in an engaging zoo education session about animal features, life cycles, and the environment. The children thoroughly enjoyed observing the different animals, learning about their habitats, and discovering how they are adapted to survive in their environments. It was a fun-filled and busy day, and by the end, we were all happily exhausted!
