Year 2 News
Welcome back to another fun-filled Term in Grade 2!
As People of Faith, we began exploring the different parts of the Mass and their meanings. We started by learning about "We Gather", discussing why we come together as a community to worship God and how the opening prayers help us prepare our hearts for Mass. We also explored "We Listen", learning about the importance of listening to God's Word through the Scripture readings, Gospel and homily. Through this learning, students developed a deeper understanding of how each part of the Mass helps us grow in faith and strengthen our relationship with God.
As readers and writers, we began exploring the features of non-fiction texts. We started by sorting a range of books into fiction and non-fiction categories before discussing the characteristics that helped us identify each text type. Together, we identified the unique features of fiction and non-fiction texts, as well as the features they share, and recorded our thinking using a Venn diagram. This learning has provided a strong foundation for our writing this term, as we begin reading, analysing and creating our own information reports.
As Mathematicians, we explored a range of strategies to solve two-digit addition problems. We practised using the split strategy, jump strategy and bridge to 10 strategy to develop flexible and efficient ways of adding larger numbers. Throughout our learning, we discussed how each strategy works and when it might be the most effective to use. By sharing and explaining our thinking, we strengthened our understanding of place value and built confidence in selecting the best strategy to solve addition problems.
