Literacy
Our literacy sessions will focus on a class novel Black cockatoo. The novel tracks the journey of an indigenous family, exploring their culture, challenges and family dynamics. Students will use knowledge of text structure to navigate the text to locate specific information. They will identify the ways different elements of a text contribute to character development and develop informative texts that include headings, ideas grouped into paragraphs that include a topic sentence, and a paragraph with concluding information.
Numeracy
Students will explore the concept of time. They will use their knowledge of 24-hour times and apply it when interpreting timetables, such as travel timetables. The focus is on understanding how to read and apply the information in the timetables, not necessarily on calculating elapsed time or start and finish times of journeys.
Fractions continues to be our focus with students learning to compare and order fractions with related denominators on parallel number lines. Students will undertake a Rich Task that requires them to apply previous knowledge of converting fractions from improper fractions to mixed numbers and ordering fractions with related denominators.
Inquiry
Our inquiry unit this term is Science based and over the coming weeks students will explore animal habitats, features and adaptations.
