Literacy

Students will continue reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, where they will discover that the people need the Iron Man’s help to defeat a powerful new threat. When the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon arrives and cannot be defeated, Hogarth calls on the Iron Man, who bravely agrees to face the creature in a test of strength. After enduring a fiery challenge, the Iron Man wins, forcing the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon to become his servant.
Students will also continue to build on their reading and writing skills by responding to comprehension questions, expanding and combining sentences, and using “because, but, so” structures. They will also develop their understanding of information reports through All About Iron, including its purpose, structure and features, while writing and summarising key ideas about iron in Australia.
Maths
Over the next fortnight in Maths, students will be exploring fractions in a range of fun and practical ways. They will learn to recognise when shapes and collections are divided into equal parts, identify and label fractions (including numerators and denominators), and work with halves, quarters, thirds, fifths and tenths. Students will also build their understanding by combining fractions to make a whole and working out what fraction is needed to complete one whole.
Check out 3A, who have been using playdough to create circles and rectangles, cutting them into equal parts like halves, quarters and thirds, and labelling their fractions—with some students even taking on the challenge of making fifths, sixths and eighths!

Inquiry
Over the next fortnight in Inquiry, students will explore how the Australian Government is structured, with a focus on the important role of local government in our community. They will learn about the services and facilities councils provide, as well as the roles of councillors, the mayor, and the people who are elected and employed to support and represent the community.
Wellbeing
This term, our focus is Positive Coping and Problem Solving. Throughout Term 2, students will engage in a range of topics and activities linked to this theme. To learn more, click the green button below to access the resource book.

Kitchen Garden
After harvesting pumpkins from the Skye garden, students in 3B and 3C enjoyed getting hands-on in the kitchen, preparing a range of delicious dishes including pumpkin and honey bread, fresh salad, and roast pumpkin and chickpea sausage rolls. They have also been busy tending to the garden and caring for the chickens, demonstrating responsibility and pride in looking after our school’s outdoor spaces.
