Literacy

Our children have been thoroughly enjoying our mentor text, The Very Cranky Bear. Through this engaging story, they’ve been building their vocabulary with words such as plainmarvellousboreworried, and roar.

We’ve also been exploring the structure of a narrative, learning that every story includes key elements such as characters, a problem, and a solution. It’s been wonderful to see the students begin to recognise and discuss these features in the texts we read together.

You can enjoy the story at home using the following link: The Very Cranky Bear.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been exploring the concept of partitioning. Partitioning involves breaking numbers into smaller, more manageable parts to better understand how they are composed. This foundational skill supports students in visualising numbers, often through hands-on materials and prepares them for addition and subtraction.

During our learning, students have been working on:

  • identifying how many more are needed to complete a given number on a five-frame
  • determining how many more are needed to make 10 using a ten-frame
  • creating number pairs that add up to 5 and 10

During our Applied Mathematics sessions, students are learning to recognise and distinguish between left and right.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, students have been exploring stress management as part of Topic 5. They have enjoyed taking part in interactive activities and games that help them recognise the signs of stress and develop strategies to feel calmer and more in control.

In the coming weeks, the focus will shift to exploring important concepts around friendships and being kind to others.

If you would like to learn more about these lessons and what they involve, please refer to the following link:  Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

Reminders

Satchels and Home Reading

Please ensure your child brings their satchel to school each day. To borrow a new coloured decodable book, your child must first return their current book. Once all boxes on the home reading sheet have been completed, please see your classroom teacher to collect a new sheet.

There is a QR code inside your child’s Boomerang Book which allows you to access Little Learners Love Literacy books online for additional reading practice at home. Here is a link to assist with reading: Reading at Home

Here is a link to the Cued articulation we use, however, please note that we are not currently teaching all of the sounds featured in this video.

Library

Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!

Library Times:

Prep A, B, C, D, E Thursdays

Shoelaces

We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Toileting Before School

Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.

Spare Clothes

Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.

Mother’s Day Afternoon

We had a wonderful time at our Mother’s Day afternoon celebration. The children enjoyed creating a collage of themselves with their mum and completing a special questionnaire all about her. They had lots of fun answering questions about the things they love most about their mums.  We hope you enjoyed the thoughtful gifts the children carefully chose at the Mother’s Day stall.

Dojo Rewards

Congratulations to all students who have achieved their Bronze Award (75 points). Certificates have been presented in class, and students will select their reward in consultation with their teacher.
