Connect: Year 1

Hello families and friends,
Thank you to the Mums and special people who visited our classrooms last Thursday. We hope you had a special Sunday.

Our learning:
Literacy:
In Little Learners, we are learning the three ways the phoneme /er/ can be represented ‘ir’, ‘ur’, and ‘er’. We will be practicing these using the chants 'dirty shirt', 'bursting balloons', and 'river monster cake'.
We have loved hearing about students practicing their heart words and reading at home. We are so impressed in their progress. If you need any assistance please contact your child's teacher.
In Writing, we have begun the second stage of learning Aesop's fables. We have loved learning all about the morals in stories and connecting it to ourselves. We are now continuing expanding our knowledge of sentence writing, to make our sentences better.
If you are interested in including our new fables in your home reading, here is a copy of part 2:
Numeracy:
In math, we are moving on to learn Place Value again. We are learning about two-digit numbers by reading and writing them in words and numerals. We are also practicing partitioning numbers in different ways, using place value knowledge, and applying strategies such as “one more” and “one less” to solve problems.
Wellbeing:
We are learning about problem solving. In Year 1, students are learning how to work successfully in a team, be supportive teammates, and use problem-solving strategies when challenges arise.
Dojo Awards:
Congratulations to the grade 1 students that have already earned 75 and 150 dojo points and received their Bronze or Silver award.
