Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 2
Our staff participated in a professional learning day on the first day of Term 2, engaging in sessions led by Education Excellence Australia and our leadership team, drawing on the following quote from renowned education leader Dylan Wiliam:
“If we create a culture where every teacher believes they need to improve, not because they are not good enough but because they can be even better, there is no limit to what we can achieve.”
This reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and to providing the best possible learning environment for every student.
ANZAC Assembly
We came together as a community to acknowledge ANZAC Day on Friday 24 April. I thank our students and guest speaker, Clarke Martin, for their thoughtful contributions. Moments such as these remind us of the importance of gratitude — taking the time to recognise the service, sacrifice and contributions of others.
In my address, I reflected on the story of Sir Edward 'Weary' Dunlop, whose compassion, courage and resilience as a prisoner of war continue to inspire generations. His example reminds us that character is often revealed in the most difficult of circumstances, and that values such as service, mateship and integrity remain just as important today. The full text of my address is attached for families who may wish to read it.
Community Support and Giving
Our Year 10 Community Connections program commenced this week, with students engaging in a range of meaningful opportunities, including working with local primary schools and kindergartens. Through these experiences, students are contributing to the community while developing valuable skills for the future.
I would like to acknowledge Ms Hunter-Smith and our Community Liaison Student Leaders, Olivia Marshall and Emma Lamprell, for their work in organising the ANZAC Biscuit Stall. The initiative raised $250.00 for the 2026 ANZAC Appeal. Thank you to our families for your generous support through donations and purchases of ANZAC Day merchandise.
This is a wonderful example of our community coming together with a shared sense of purpose and gratitude.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Our Year 8 students departed yesterday for their Summit Camp, an important experience that supports connection, independence and personal growth. I thank our GOAL Mentors for their care and commitment in supporting students through this program.
Student Achievement
Congratulations to the students who represented the college at the State Swimming and Diving Championships last week. Our state swimmers came away with a total of seven medals— four gold, one silver and two bronze — while Tilly Hilton achieved 2nd overall at Regional level and 4th overall at State. My thanks to Mr Pinto for his organisation and support of the team.
Staffing Update
Welcome back to Katie Ferraro, who joins us from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Katie is teaching Create Performance and Our World.
Looking Ahead
We are looking forward to welcoming prospective families to our Open Night on Tuesday. I thank our staff, students and parent volunteers in advance for their support in showcasing our college and the opportunities available to our students.
As we move into the term ahead, we are reminded that it is not luck that defines our success, but the collective effort, care and commitment of our community. Thank you for the role each of you plays in supporting our students to belong, believe and become.
Mr Stephen Bourbon
Principal
