The Arts Update

Create Performance & Create Visual

Music

Coming up in Music, we have the Battle of the Bands school competition on Monday 25 May, Week 6. This is an annual school event where any student/students can enter to perform in front of the whole school! This is a great opportunity to have some fun with your friends and showcase your skills.

Entries are open through the Teams Microsoft form until next Wednesday, 6 May. You can also speak to either me (Will Bowles - Performing Arts Leader - Music) or Miss Saunders.

On Friday 21 May (Week 5), there is another Friday Lunchtime Concert outside W4. Excited to see everyone there!

If you would like to perform, please contact me via email or speak to Miss Saunders.

Drama

Theatre Studies Excursion

Last Thursday, our VCE Theatre Studies students went off to Theatre Work’s to see their production of MARA, a one-woman show about the life and times of Cinderella’s stepmother, starring Aurora Kurth. Our class thoroughly enjoyed the performance and afterwards were treated to a special Q&A with the cast and creatives behind the show. This performance will be the subject of our next SAC, and I for one am looking forward to diving deeper into this show.

Lip-sync Battle

Arts Week is starting to take shape, and I would like to introduce one of our exciting events: the very first BSC Lip-sync Battle! Held at the Amphitheatre (outside W4) Thursday lunchtime in Week 5, we invite anyone and everyone to join in, whether it be cheering on friends or “belting” it out on stage. It’s sure to be a great way to spend lunch having a bit of fun.

Drama Games

Another fun way to spend your lunch is to stop by W5 on Tuesday lunchtime in Week 5 for some Drama Games! This activity is perfect for anyone who likes fun, group activities focused on teamwork and improving drama skills such as improvising, projection, and movement. So, if that’s up your alley, come along! We’d love to have you!

Visual Arts

Arts Week

Arts Week 2026 is fast approaching, along with its many Visual Arts activities for people from every year level to participate in.

From Tuesday 19 May to Monday 25 May, we’re celebrating Arts Week, and there’s something for everyone. One of the highlights is the Collaborative House Artwork, where students will team up to create large-scale artworks that will brighten up our school. It’s a great way to add to your school community and join in on something fun.

If you love working with fabrics and textures, don’t miss the Textiles Workshops. The workshop will run at lunchtimes with Ms MacGregor, and it’s a great opportunity to work with fabrics and collage. Whether you’re a beginner or already love textiles, this is your chance to learn something new and create something you’re proud of.

For those who want to showcase their skills, the Arts Competition is the perfect opportunity. Students can enter their best work in categories like Photography, Portraits and Beaumaris Community. It’s all about celebrating creativity and seeing what amazing things our classmates can do.

The date for the Arts Festival is Thursday 18 June, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Beaumaris Secondary College. The theme this year is It Takes a Community to Raise a Child, and we’ll have live music, interactive art experiences, and a special installation created during Arts Week with the help of Ms MacGregor.
