Foundation & Grade 1

The Foundation and Grade 1 room has been a hub of energy (and exhaustion) over the last few weeks. The transition into the 2026 school year has provided an opportunity for the Foundation children to show their bravery, while the Grade 1s have demonstrated gentle and generous leadership.

Our key learning focus over the past few weeks has been us!

The children have worked hard learning each other's names, using teamwork, creating artworks and supporting one another to engage in, and out of the classroom.

They’ve practised and perfected a range of classroom routines, and are demonstrating their readiness to take on new and exciting learning challenges in the next few weeks.

Whilst most of our first weeks have been spent settling in and making connections, we have begun to explore foundational concepts in key content areas.

In Literacy, we will begin to develop conventions of written text, to support the introduction of handwriting. We will also begin to explore phonics, starting with our phonological awareness (our recognition and use of single sounds and letters).

In Numeracy, we are exploring transformation, through positional language. We will apply this knowledge in the coming weeks as we begin our unit on shapes.

Thank you all for your support as we’ve navigated the beginning of the year, you should all be incredibly proud of your little people!
