Buildings and Grounds Update

Julie Dunn - Assistant Principal

As term 1 draws to a close we will have a number of projects on the go during the school holidays.

The first is the removal of one of our portables which has been earmarked for removal for over 12 months. The portable has been emptied and is now ready for collection by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA). Removal of the portable has allowed us to have an enforced clean-up of old furniture due to lack of storage. As you are aware lots of furniture was on offer to the community during our clean up time. Thank you to everyone who helped ensure most of our unwanted items found new homes. Not only did we help limit the amount of landfill we produce, but we also helped our families with useful items for their homes, offices, cubbies and garages. We also supported 2 schools who required additional furnishings. They were very appreciative and were very happy to support them. Once the portable is removed the areas will be fenced off and new soil and grass will be planted. The fences will be removed once the grass has established.

Secondly, we will have some works done to our ramps on Bendoran crescent. The major ramp reconstruction will occur outside the OHSC doors. This will mean our OHSC staff and families will need to enter via the deck area during the school holidays. This will also mean our families visiting during the holidays will need to use the alternative ramps on Balmoral Avenue adjacent to the staff car park.

The ramps do not currently comply with regulations and will be rectified, by the beginning of term 2. The second area is adjacent to the entry to our ICT room. This should cause manual disruption to our school.

Overall, with the hard work of our gardeners, the school grounds are looking better every day. The garden beds will be mulched over the holiday period, prior to some spring plantings.

Thanks to Ms Courtney Jewell we have successfully gained a grant from CERES and their Schools Wildlife Program. The schools for Wildlife Program guides students to design and create a fully planted, wildlife-friendly garden at our school. This takes place in Term 3. More information will follow after a meeting onsite on the 13th of May with the program organisers.

Vandalism at our school is rare however even the smallest amount of damage costs the school to repair. Please help us to continue to keep our school the beautiful place it is by reporting any damage or vandalism you see at our school as soon as it is noticed so that it can be repaired immediately.

Our school gates are open on weekends for families to enjoy. This also deters vandalism to our school.

As always if you have any concerns regarding our school grounds, please contact me via phone, 03 9467 2601 or email : Julie.Fanger@education.vic.gov.au

Happy and safe holidays everyone,
