Library

Ms Jessica Skerry

After a long term it is wonderful to take time to put up our feet and enjoy a good book or two while we rest.

All to be better prepared for what is coming in Term 2!

Lamont Book Fair

Next term the library is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Lamont Book Fair for parents, guardians and students to come and see and if they would like to purchase books. The Fair will be open to adults before and after school from the 15th of May until the 20th of May. Students will come to look at the fair with their class during school hours, where they will get a chance to fill in a Wish List. You do not have to let them buy anything on this list if you do not want to. However, if you have given them permission to purchase any items, they will also have a time to come back with classmates to buy books or pick up the books, adults have purchased online. Students can also come with an adult to the fair before or after school to browse or buy, but if they are not with an adult they may be asked to leave.

Early next term I will be asking for volunteers who are willing to help with sales before or after school. Please consider if this is something you would like to help with.

I will also be sending out additional information about how you can purchase from the book fair and what times the fair will be open closer to the date.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Each year the Australian Library and Information Association organizes the National Simultaneous Storytime, where each school, classroom, library, kinder and home are encouraged to read the same book at the same time. This year the chosen book is “The Truck Cat” by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. The event will be held at 12pm on the 21st of May and anyone, anywhere may join by reading, watching or listening to a reading of the book. Last year ALIA had their biggest and most successful NSS with over 2.3 million people all reading together at over 21,000 registered locations across Australia and New Zealand.

Library Club

This term, students voted for “The Glow” by Sofie Laguna and Marc McBride to be read during library club on Monday and Thursday. The book was a supernatural story about 2 young creative girls who are left on their own trying to find help after their entire town becomes frozen by a strange glowing light. Over the course of the sessions the students learned what was creating the light and followed the girls’ journey as they tried to find help, before the final battle against “The Glow”. The book is now available for borrowing if anyone missed a part of the story or would like to have a closer look at the detailed illustrations drawn by Marc McBride.

Next term the library will open for Library Club at lunch twice a week and at recess once a week. A timetable with open times will be on the library window for students.

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday break!
