The end of April/ beginning of May is poetry month at Norwood and to celebrate in term 2 the library will be hosting a poetry competition. Students can enter only once and can choose to write a poem in one of 3 forms – Limerick, Free Verse or Haiku using one of four themes – Respect, Aspiration, Resilience, Responsibility – our school values. There is a limit of 50 words and there are some great prizes up for grabs. Poems can be submitted to the new library email address: 8185-library@schools.vic.edu.au by the end of Week 4 of Term 2 (Friday 15th May). Winners will be announced soon after.

Each year, the Children's Book Council of Australia selects a number of books written by Australian authors and published in Australia, to make up the notables list of books that are in running for the Book of the Year award. From this list, 6 books are shortlisted and schools around Australia are invited to create their own Shadow Judging Panel, to read, discuss and decide who they think will be the winner for this year.
To be eligible for this year's Shadow Judging Panel, students will need to be:
willing and able to read the 6 shortlisted books in the timeframe (they will have 12 weeks to read the books which makes it two weeks for each book). These will be supplied, students do not need to purchase them to be part of this panel.
able to meet fortnightly during Recess in Term 2 and Term 3 to discuss and ‘judge’ the books (actual day will be decided at the first meeting of the panel.)
Our Shadow Judging Panel will be reading the 6 books that are shortlisted in the Older Readers Category. If you are interested in being part of this year's Shadow Judging Panel, complete this form by Wednesday 1 April. The successful candidates will be emailed on Thursday 2 April to start in Term 2.

The Library is a great place to find the best books for holiday reading. Whether it be print books, eBooks or audio books, there is literally something for everyone. Take some time before you finish the term to come in and browse or you can search the Library Catalogue online and put some books on hold. You’ll receive an email to let you know they are ready for you to collect before you head off for holidays. If digital is more in your line then check out our online eBook platform. Both the catalogue and the online ebook platform have single-sign on using your Compass credentials. If you have any issues, please come and see Ms Mill in the Library.
