The Year 8 students went on a Geography fieldwork excursion to three coastal locations: Ricketts Point, Hampton Beach and Brighton Beach. During the excursion, we had to complete a booklet that asked us to do things like rate how well the beaches looked after the environment and identify the management strategies being used.
We also had to label pictures in the booklet to show where things like erosion and vegetation were present. This helped us better understand the different features of each beach and how they are managed.
We were also able to use our phones to take photos as evidence, such as signs, negative human impacts, and different types of management strategies. This made the activity more interesting and helped us collect real examples from each location.
Overall, it was a really good day, and we were lucky to have sunny weather on Friday for my group. We also did a lot of walking, which was great for getting our steps in.
I really enjoyed the excursion because we got to take photos, explore the beaches, and learn more about what is happening in our local coastal environment. I think this excursion was a great idea because it gave us real-life examples of the things we have been learning about in Geography. Thank you to the teachers for organising the excursion and making it such a great day.
