Having snagged the Premiership Pennant in a fun filled, action packed day against Ringwood early in February, the combination of our great leader and Norwood Year 12 stalwart, Heidi C, along with a group of loyal players from junior years and some brand new volunteer participants, were pleased, as all Norwood division winners over the years before them, to represent the College to the best of their ability at the high level of Region.
Pitted against Mt Waverley who had 3 Premier League players in their 11, as well as other regular club cricketers, we agreed that any wickets captured or any runs accumulated would be a celebration for our inexperienced crew. And we made sure all positives were enjoyed to the full by our united team.
Choosing to bowl, we dismissed one of their gun cricketers for a duck as keeper Issy A threw down the wickets with a direct hit, when Leah T was bowling her first over. In her second over, Leah followed up with an LBW against the other opener, and in her third, she had the Number 4 caught by a superb catch at mid-on by skipper Heidi. With Paige F bowling their 5th batter on the last ball of the 15th and final over, we had restricted our opposition to 4/87 and were proud of our efforts.
Heidi 0/12 off 4; Leah 2/19 off 4; Paige 1/24 off 4; Lara Y 0/7 off 1; Issy 0/20 off 2.
To their credit, Mt Waverley’s bowling was at a high level, both with their pace and spin. As a result, our inexperience found it difficult to firstly defend and then attack. Although the score board indicated we totalled 26, once again we were happy that we had tried our best, and we were also most happy to celebrate together at the end of the day. When Year 12 Emma M produced a photo of the cricket team when she was in Year 7, there were smiles all round. Another great day for Norwood; one to be remembered.
Mt Waverley 4/87 Norwood 10/26
A big thank you to those who stepped up to fill the team, after there were some who were unable to be involved.
