As Year 7 State Champions in 2024 and close Year 8 State Runners up in 2025, our Year 9 girls, even without our most prolific wicket taker in those years, Jada B (injured), were quietly confident in tackling Ringwood in the Division Final at Elgar Park, Box Hill North. Our 10 fit Year 9s were complemented by a keen group of 4 Year 10s, one of whom willingly accepted the captaincy - Grace M.
The coin toss saw Norwood have its first win for the day, deciding to put runs on the board. Focused on setting a formidable target, openers Grace and Jassie F judiciously compiled 50 in the first 7 overs. As the pleasing run rate continued without loss of a wicket, Grace retired on 38 to allow Lottie W to put further pressure on their bowlers-which she did most effectively. When Jassie retired compulsorily on 53, Dana S joined Lottie for a short stint.
After our 20 overs, we had amassed 174 without the loss of a wicket. Along with Grace’s 38* (one four) and Jassie’s 53*(6 fours), Lottie accumulated a rapid 36* (6 fours) and Dana 6* in her brief appearance.
After a little respite from the heat, Bonnie P opened the attack with decided pace. In this first over, one of their 2 experienced openers top edged Bonnie’s rising delivery to the reliably safe hands of Remi S, who judged it perfectly above eye level at deep point. (1/1). In the 4th over, Remi S was in the action again, bowling good line and length, and having the other opener caught by Grace at mid-off. (2/13). When Amy B bowled Ringwood’s Number 3, and the score board indicated 3/29 off 11 overs, all present knew that Norwood was certainly in a winning position. Jassie ran out their 4th batter with a direct hit from short mid-wicket resulting in 4/42. Their fifth batter was showing some resistance and skill, but after Lottie bowled Number 6 (5/60) and Dana, having swapped to keeper, stumped their next batter off Jas A’s over (6/71), the match in its 19th over was almost at its conclusion.
Bonnie 1/4 off 2; Remi S 1/6 off 2; Lottie 1/6 off 2; Amy B 1/5 off 2; Jas A 1/7 off 1; Taylah S 0/3 0ff 2; Jassie 0/4 off 2; Dana 0/9 off 2; Emma L 0/4 off 1; Tara SL 0/15 off 2; Chloe L 0/15 off 2. All 11 bowers played their part, with Remy B and Anna B content to only field.
Norwood 0/174 off 20 Ringwood 6/85 off 20
