Year 7 Boys' Cricket
Michael Wilson - Sports Coach

In early March, the cricket season for our Year 7 boys boded well when an enthusiastic group of 21 participants commenced the first of 3 after school extended practice sessions. Capably led by Samuel C and Xavier F, the boys trained impressively as they aimed to represent the college in their first interschool sporting experience.
On the day of the competition, we were drawn to play Melba College. Winning the toss, Melba chose to bat. After 11.3 overs, our opposition was dismissed for 29. 9 bowlers were employed and all bowled economically.
Samuel 2/8 off 2 (both wickets taken when he switched to spin); Logan L 2/8 off 2; Leon M 1/0 off 2 (wicket with his first ball); Zac M 1/2 off 1 (also taken with his first ball); Ashton H 1/1 off 1; Lachie I 1/4 off 1; Liam Johnson 1/1 off 1; Will S 0/2 off 1; Ollie H 0/2 off 1.
The bowlers were supported by our fielders who were walking in with the bowler, backing each other up, communicating clearly and appealing sensibly. Of note was wicketkeeper Zavier’s run out of their opener and 3 catches to the 3 Ls: Logan, Liam and Lachie.
With a total of 30 to attain, we were keen to provide the opportunity for as many of our batters to contribute. In fact, we managed for all the squad of 14 who attended on the day to face some deliveries.
Having reached 32 after our first 5 overs, Xavier 10* and Lachie 9* retired. A further 8 others replicated the openers or were not out at the close. Those who did not have the opportunity to bowl, all contributed positively when batting: Elijah G, Callum A, Sam N and Hugo O.
Melba 10/29 off 11.3 Norwood 4/108 off 16
As Ringwood defeated Mooroolbark in their match, the Division Final between us and Ringwood will be early in Term 4, with the winner representing at Eastern Region.
We look forward very much to reconvening and recommencing training later in Term 3, in readiness for a tilt at the Premiership.
