Physical Education News

Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends
Welcome back for our third PE newsletter for term 3. All students have now moved on to new units of learning, so read on for updates!
A special shoutout to all those who competed at the Tarneit District Athletics carnival in Week 5. Our students did such a great job representing the school and were able to win the shield for the 4th year in a row!!! The top performing students are now onto the Wyndham Division Athletics on the 10th of September. Good luck team!
Preps:
Preps have now been assessed on their cartwheel, and we have seen some great results! We can't wait to see how much growth our prep students show in grades 1 and 2 when we do gymnastics again. Students have now started a throwing unit where we focus on aim, foot stance, and throwing for power!
Grade 1s and 2s:
Grade 1s and 2s have also completed their cartwheel assessment with so many outstanding results, some of which have shown a lot of growth since last year. The cartwheel is tricky, so we would love for students to practice in a safe space at home.
Grade 1 and 2 students have also started a new unit of throwing for power and accuracy. We have done a lot of practice on this over their time at Tarneit Rise, and we hope it has allowed them to access more fun opportunities at home and in the community!
Grade 3s and 4s:
The grade 3 and 4 students have now moved on to everyone's favourite unit - Fitness. This year we have extended the unit to 6 weeks, allowing for 2 Cooper Runs and 4 weeks of fitness circuits. We have made some changes to the circuit, and the students are loving them. Music pumping and muscles firing!
Grades 5s and 6s:
Grade 5 and 6 students have also now moved onto our Fitness unit. After already completing the dreaded Cooper Run, students are now going to have a go at our new and improved fitness circuit for a 4-week block before completing another Cooper Run to see if their fitness level has improved. We also remind families that the Cooper Run is super easy to set up year-round. 25 metre measuring tape, 4 items to use as markers, and a stopwatch are all that is needed. Students will know what it looks like. Give it a go at home!
