UNIT 2 - VCE Business Management
During our business excursion to HEYTEA at Chadstone Shopping Centre, Sorinda and I gained a better understanding of how a successful business operates in a competitive retail environment. I observed how HEYTEA attracts customers through its branding, store layout, product presentation and customer service. The excursion allowed me to connect what I have learned in Business Management to a real-life business and see how different business strategies are applied in practice.
Overall, the excursion was a valuable experience because it gave Sorinda and myself the opportunity to see how business concepts such as marketing, operations, customer service and competition work together in a real business environment.

Early Thursday morning last week we went to Chadstone Shopping Centre. The objective of the day was to go into a store and research the 7P's of marketing. We chose Sephora as a group, we looked around the store, asked employees questions, and we discovered a deeper understanding of how Sephora runs as a business. The Sephora employees had great customer service, were helpful, and willing to have a conversation with us.
This was a great experience to get a better understanding on the 7P's of marketing and the Chadstone experience was a great alternative to learn in a different environment and it was a great day to spend with our friends.

On Thursday 20 August, VCE Unit 2 Business Management students went on an excursion to Chadstone Shopping Centre. As Chadstone is the largest shopping center in Australia, we had many opportunities to observe marketing and business techniques. Each student had to analyze a specific store to get an understanding of different pricing, marketing, and product strategies.
I selected the Frank Green store to analyze. As it is currently the only physical frank green store, I was able to analyze their different offers within their store. Within the store, they offered various color and design options, lid type options and in-store engraving machine. This excursion helped all of us build a further understanding for our business studies.

🥁Knox House Drumming Challenge
For Knox's house points challenge we decided to honour the icon, Ms Whitney Houston by completing a drum challenge to her song "I Will Always Love You".
The students had the opportunity to show their rhythm by matching the beat of the drum perfectly. Whilst that sounds easy on paper, it proved to be not so simple, especially in front of a crowd. Many students attempted the challenge with gusto however only a select few were successful!
Overall, it was an entertaining experience for all involved, and I think those who participated had the song stuck in their heads for 3 business days after.

✍🏽Trial Examinations
VCE teachers are working hard to support our students getting ready for the end-of-year VCAA VCE Examinations. Practising timed trial examination papers is an important part of this. Therefore, all Unit 3-4 VCE students are required to complete Trial Examinations on the following dates.
Students with exam clashes or three exams on one day must complete a ‘clash form’. We encourage VCE students to seek assistance from their teachers and to create an assessment planner for each subject.

Year 10 Food Studies Cake Decorating🎂
The Year 10 Food Studies students truly impressed with their outstanding creativity, talent, and technical skills as part of their design brief assessment.
From the initial concept through to the final presentation, each student demonstrated exceptional planning, attention to detail, and a flair for innovative and eye-catching decoration.
The results speak for themselves, with a vibrant showcase of imagination, dedication, and hard work on display. It has been wonderful to see each student's unique ideas brought to life in such a colourful and creative way.
Congratulations to all our budding food designers on their fantastic achievements, and thank you to everyone involved in supporting them along the way. What a wonderful celebration of design thinking, practical skills, and creativity in action! 👏🎉

😁Dad Jokes Deliver the Laughs !
A big thank you to our awesome Resource Centre staff for organising this year's Dad Joke Competition and bringing plenty of laughter to our school community.
Students were challenged to submit their best (or perhaps worst!) dad jokes, with extra points awarded for the biggest eye roll. The response was outstanding, with some truly groan-worthy entries that had us laughing, cringing, and sharing them with friends.

A Lesson in Parenthood!
Our Unit 2 Health and Human Development students recently took part in the Virtual Infant Simulator Program, providing them with a unique and eye-opening insight into the realities of caring for a newborn baby.
Over several days, students took responsibility for one of five infant simulators, caring for their "baby" around the clock, both at school and at home. The simulators, which are the same size and weight as a real newborn, required feeding, burping, rocking, nappy changes, and plenty of comforting, including during the night!
Designed to support learning in the Developmental Transitions unit, the experience challenged students to balance their everyday commitments while meeting the demands of infant care. Through the program, students gained valuable firsthand understanding of the responsibilities, patience, and resilience required of parents and caregivers.
While there were certainly some sleepless nights and unexpected interruptions along the way, the experience provided an authentic and memorable learning opportunity that brought classroom theory to life.
Well done to all students for embracing the challenge and demonstrating such maturity, commitment, and care throughout the program.

Science Week
As part of Science week, students were invited to participate in the following challenges:
👩🏻🔬How can we build the tallest structure from spaghetti and marshmallows?
👩🏻🔬How can we create the best / biggest reaction from coke and menthos?
The spaghetti and marshmallow building got off to a great start and there were some very enthusiastic boys who were great builders and managed to create a beautifully engineered tower to a height of 85cm! The winning team of Oliver, Xander and Micah impressed everyone with this incredible structure.
Their secret to success? Understanding the power and strength of triangles.
The coke and menthos experimental reactions were performed outside near the oval.
Despite changing a number of a number of variables (adding more menthos), the reactions weren’t quite as dramatic as some of the audience would have liked.
Thank you to the Science lab staff – Maree Pennant, Jessie Kasap, Alessia Alifano and our visiting ex-student Emma Sidea for preparing and conducting the activities for the students.
Staff also enjoyed a Science themed morning tea to finish off a fun week.

Year 9 Visual Communication Design
Students in Year 9 Visual Communication Design have been experiencing how to translate 3-Dimensional drawings into 2-Dimensional line drawings called Third Angle Orthogonal Drawings. This drawing method details the different views of a 3-Dimensional object without any manipulations of perspective, and it is widely used in engineering and manufacturing.
The students have experienced and developed unique skills, such as line styles, dimensioning, and labelling of views, to communicate various details for their drawings which align with Australian Standards. Please take a look at the great work produced by the students below.
