VET at Nazareth College
It has been a busy time in the VET Department, with enrolments and pathway planning well underway for students looking to undertake vocational education as part of their secondary schooling.
Our team has been working closely with students in Years 9-11 to support them through the 2027 VET enrolment process, helping them understand course requirements, pathway opportunities and how a VET course can contribute to their future goals both through VCE or VCE Vocational Major (VM).
A VET course provides students with opportunities to develop practical, industry-relevant skills while completing their secondary education. Depending on the program, a VET course can provide pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships, employment, TAFE, and further study.
With Nazareth College offering such a diverse range of VET programs, students can explore areas that align with their interests, strengths, and career aspirations. Our VET programs continue to provide valuable hands-on learning experiences and help students build confidence, workplace skills and industry knowledge.
We are excited to see so many students engaging with VET opportunities both on campus and at other TAFE /RTO providers and taking proactive steps towards their future career paths. The VET and Careers Team will continue to work with students and families throughout the enrolment process to ensure they are supported in making informed choices about their vocational pathway. Why Our Learning Support Officers Love supporting our students studying a VET course
Hello to our lovely Nazareth College students and families. My name is Deb Michaud, and I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to provide support for our students who are also studying a VET course. Today, I would love to share my experience as an LSO supporting our students with their VET learning.
Supporting secondary school students studying a VET course is very rewarding and matters deeply because a VET course provides a powerful way to help young people to transition from school into real-world careers. Studying a VET course gives our students the opportunity to gain hands-on skills, develop increased self-confidence and it provides stronger pathways into apprenticeships, jobs or further studies early in life. VET classrooms focus on real life tasks and students learn by doing. Learning and working in adult environments teach young people key life skills such as self-management, adult communication, problem solving, teamwork and resilience. Group projects replicate real workplaces teaching students how to collaborate with diverse personalities and resolve conflicts.
I thoroughly enjoy and am fortunate to have the opportunity to support our students in following their passions, future employment goals and to achieve success in pursuing and gaining the nationally recognized qualifications that they need for their chosen careers.

I joined the Nazareth community earlier this year, returning after previously being a student in the VM program. Since February, I’ve had the opportunity to support and watch over students both on campus and externally, including students from Years 10–12 completing their TAFE courses. I’ve particularly enjoyed these external experiences, as I see TAFE courses as a valuable gateway for students to explore different pathways and gain a clearer understanding of what they may want to pursue in their future careers.
One of the most enjoyable parts of my role has been seeing students step outside of the traditional classroom environment and develop practical skills that can be applied to their future. Whether it is working with tools, learning about a particular industry or simply gaining experience in a new environment, these opportunities can help students discover interests and strengths they may not have recognized before.
Being involved in TAFE experiences has also shown me how important it is for students to have opportunities to take ownership of their learning. Watching students become more confident, independent and engaged in their chosen courses has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my time at Nazareth so far.
