Year 10 Community Action
At the start of term 2, Year 10 Community Action classes began visiting the Regis Nursing Home on Bakers Road, near Nazareth College.
Many students communicate how much they enjoy being involved with this activity and interacting with the elderly residents in this Residential Care Facility. Some of the activities the Community Action students have participated in with the residents include different types of crafts, puzzles and activities like word find, join the dots and mindful colouring in, and karaoke.
Some students concede that initially they felt awkward interacting with people they did not know, and going into an unfamiliar environment, but now their confidence and ability to connect with those older than themselves has been enhanced, which is a valuable life skill.
These Community Action students have been proud representatives of Nazareth College and shown empathy to others. Well done, to all of you!
A recent highlight at Regis Residential Care was Year 12 student, Ian Isac’s singing performance for the residents and staff there. All enjoyed Ian’s singing and accompaniment on guitar by Gabriella Brusco as everyone sang along, tapped their feet and moved to Ian’s dulcet tones.
We look forward to continuing visits to Regis Nursing Home and bringing joy to the residents there.

VCE VM Community Projects
The culmination of learning in Year 12 VCE VM is showcased by the community projects students organise. Identifying an issue or cause they feel passionate about, students have planned, carried out and analysed their achievement of goals and project management skills.
💙With a concern about rising mental health issues in society, Louis ran a successful sausage sizzle donating $220 profit to Beyond Blue.
Scott R captured the hearts of many with his pink themed morning tea, supporting the NBCF raising $300 to ensure this worthy foundation can back research, provide education and counselling for those impacted by breast cancer. It was joyful to see guests chat and enjoy each others company as they ate delicacies.
💖Lucas M has put a call out to the Nazareth community to assist him in stocking the racks and shelves at Salvos Keysborough. Please read below for the most needed items.
🎈Connor D whose passion for Balloon Footy over the past two years, saw him focus on debilitating illnesses. He was aware of the 'Big Freeze at the G' initiative run by Neale Daniher and Fight MND, but his research led him to discover that there are many other illnesses without anywhere near the public profile and financial support.
Through Mr O, Connor tapped into Muscular Dystrophy Australia, who were so inspired by the community projects being undertaken as well as our students' collective passion for Balloon Footy and the league's participants. Not only did Jackie and Ben, representatives of MDA visit Nazareth for an informative presentation, they also spoke with individual students about their community projects.
Connor is currently organising a Balloon Football experience for the MDA members at Nazareth.
Catriona's Junior Girls Football Season Reflection from the Coach:
Last Tuesday, 25 August, the Junior Girls Football Team officially concluded their footy season. Looking back on the season, it has been amazing to see just how much the girls have grown not only in their football skills, but also in their friendships, communication, teamwork, and ability to grow in positive ways.
The beginning of the season was quite rocky. We even had to forfeit a game because we didn’t have enough players. However, this did not change the girls’ love or enthusiasm for the sport. It was wonderful to see how happy and excited they were every time they stepped onto the field, whether it was for a game or training.
Throughout the season, we experienced wins and losses, ups and downs, and even a few injuries. Through it all, the girls continued to support one another and, most importantly, stayed positive and happy. Every time someone scored, even when we were behind, the girls would celebrate and cheer together. This created such a positive and encouraging atmosphere and showed how much they valued and supported each other.
One of the most rewarding parts of the season was seeing the girls develop as people. They are all open-minded, kind-hearted, and positive, and I hope they carry these qualities with them throughout their high school years and beyond.
I would like to thank all of the players for making this season so enjoyable with their positivity, kindness, and determination. I would also like to thank all of the teachers who helped make the season possible and supported the girls along the way.
It has been a privilege to watch this team grow, and I am incredibly proud of everything they have achieved this season. Well done, girls!
